"Simple…yet sophisticated, we’re YOUR local community bank"

The origins of the Oostburg State Bank can be traced back to September 23rd, 1907 when a group of 39 residents met to discuss the organization of a bank in Oostburg.  At 8:00 p.m. at Weiler’s Hall (located on the 1st floor of the Oostburg House on the north west corner of Center Avenue and N. 10th Street)

Peter Daane was elected Chairman of the meeting and S.E. Huibregtse was elected Secretary.  Three tellers, Jacob Fuhrmann, E. Was, and John Brethouwer, were appointed. These “tellers” counted votes during the meeting.  When the group adjourned at 10:30 p.m. the groundwork for the foundation of the bank had been completed.

During the next five months additional meetings were held to continue the process of forming the Oostburg State Bank.  Land was purchased on the southeast corner of 10th Street and Center Avenue allowing the bank to have a site for its new building.  On March 2nd, 1908 the Oostburg State Bank opened its doors for business with $25,000 in capitol and two cashiers.  Serving as Directors in the order they were elected were: Peter Daane, Adrian (Ed) Faas, Jacob Fuhremann, John Theune, John Brethhouwer, S.E. The bank has ordered 100 specially minted custom silver anniversary coins to be given out as prizes during the year.  In addition, we had custom die cast banks produced that are replicas of the bank’s original building.  These banks will also be given away as prizes throughout the year and are available for sale.
